I am: (in)dependent

Ever since I moved out of the house 1.5 years ago, I kept thinking to myself, I'm going to be independent. I'm going to go out into the world and do things on my own for the first time. I've lived at home for 22 years and it's time to life my life.

When I got to my duty station I met up with a friend from my training class and we explored the new city that we were going to live in. After I got my apartment I asked a friend to help me with getting furniture into my truck. When I had my eye surgery I had a friend of mine take me to and from the hospital. When I had my wisdom teeth removed my pastor was kind enough to take me to and from the hospital. When flying out of town, I asked a friend of mine to drop me to and from the airport. When I was sick I had friends from church that would bring me food and visit to check up on me.

Am I really independent? The truth is, I'm always dependent on someone else. I'm living alone, but I'm always needing assistance because I cannot do it all on my own. Somethings I can do, but not everything.

I first thought I wasn't really growing up in that I was depending on others, but I learned it's ok to ask for help. Imagine me trying to drive home after my eye surgery or try to feed myself while drugged up on pain medication from getting my wisdom teeth pulled. There would be no way I could those things without someone to assist me.

Jesus reminds us that we can do nothing without him.
"I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing." John 15:5

We may need assistance from time to time, but we will need God all the time. He's available all the time. All we need to do is ask our heavenly father in prayer.
